Caesarea Philippi:
A town, whose ruins are known today as Banias, was located at one of the main sources of the Jordan River. It was in Caesarea Philippi that Peter declared his testimony of the Lord’s divinity (Matthew 16:13; Mark 8:27).
Caiaphas:
The high priest in Jerusalem at the time of Jesus’ ministry.
Capernaum:
A town located on the northern shore of the Sea of Galilee.
Christ:
A title given to Jesus that reflects His calling as the Messiah (the Anointed One) and Savior of the world. Christ is the English pronunciation for the Greek word Christos meaning “anointed one.”
Church of All Nations:
A contemporary church located on the traditional site of the Garden of Gethsemane.
Church of Our Lady:
Home of the original Christus statue by Bertel Thorvaldsen, a copy of which is in the North Visitors’ Center on Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Church of the Holy Virgin:
Believed to be one of the resting places of Mary, Joseph, and Jesus during their travels in Egypt.
Council of Nicaea:
The first council of Christian leaders dealing primarily with the nature of God, held in Nicaea in AD 325.
